Market Arms Sponsors Montrose ABC
15th February 2010

This week saw more sponsorship for Montrose ABC in the form of tracksuits and boxing gloves from the Market Arms
Licensee, Willem Dorward turned up at the club to present the new equipment and was swamped by the Junior Members all wanting to be in the photograph with him.
Willem was taken aback by the enthusiasm of the youngsters and was only too happy to help the club.
" It is great that so many kids have somewhere to go in the town, especially on the winter nights. This will help to keep them fit and also take part in sporting events if they wish.
I am glad I can help in some way, but what they really need is permanent premises which will send the message to the youngsters that the town supports what they are doing"
I only hope that something can be done by a private individual or the Council."
Meanwhile, four Junior boxers head north at the weekend to take part in the Aberdeen Schoolboys' Championships, which is being held at Cummings Park, Aberdeen.
Apart from John Docherty (45 Kgs), who has already had four bouts and four victories, the other three will be entering the ring for the first time. They are all looking forward to it and I'm sure they will do themselves and the club proud.
They are John Paul Bell (30 Kgs), Shaun McCabe (55 Kgs) and Sean McPhee (75 Kgs). Everyone at the club wishes you luck.
The following week Kane Morphew is on the road again, this time taking part in the Scottish Youth Championship Pre-lims at Lasswade High School Centre in Bonnyrigg. This is a step up for Kane from the Novice class, but coach Scott Graham is confident in his abilty to do well at this level.
The Junior section of the club is going through a good spell at present with lots of enthusiastic young members. If you want to come along then sessions for Juniors are Mondays 6 to 8pm at Traill Drive.
We could do with some more Seniors, so if you are over sixteen and want to sample the sport, or just want to improve your fitness, then come along to Traill Drive Monday and Wednesdays between 6 and 8pm.
